Maybe you have heard about Flight Control for iPhone? On this device the game is a big hit and is sold many times. It is indeed a great and fun game for iPhone where you master an airport and have to down planes on special zones. The WVGA Game for Windows Mobile feels a lot like this game and appears like a copy of the iPhone version. Though, is it exactly as good as the iPhone game? If you read this review you will find out.

Flight Commander for Windows Mobile phones was developed by the same people that gave us the great game Tower Defense, Tower Defense which was valued as a great game with the fast and addictive game play and great graphics. Flight Commander like Tower Defense looks and feels great. The game features cartoon artwork that genuinely fit the genre. The menu has some voluptuous flight attendants that are wearing tight shirts that appear to be a size too small. Everyone knows sex sells but it does seem a bit overboard for a game like this, even if they are just drawn artwork. These round breasted females in the menu feel out of place and there isn’t really a proper reason for them to be there.

There is an option in the menu to view your high scores that can truly help to motivate yourself to keep improving it. Like Tower Defense from the same developers this game has an choice to continue a paused game which is good. Colorstone really shows it’s understanding towards the mobile gamer here. It’s a great feature that you are able to exit the game at whatever time and carry on later on.

In this Windows Mobile game you have to land choppers and airplanes on landing strips. Water plane airstrips, normal strips and chopper pads are part of the landing district. As the game starts airplanes and helicopters will come in your game world from different angles. As new airplanes or choppers enter the airspace you will see little blinking lights that alert you to their bearing. You land the planes or helicopters in this amazing Windows Mobile game by guiding them to the airstrips. You do this by dragging the helicopters/planes and giving them a route to the landing zone of your desire. Whenever you land a plane your score goes up, the game ends when you crash a plane and your lives run out. By default you can only have one crash before the game ends, but for newcomers you can set this to 4 and make some mistakes before finishing the game. After testing it seems actually preferred to use the stylus instead of controlling the game with your finger. The stylus can actually offer better speed an accuracy and you don’t hear this much but as preciseness goes capacitive screens really can’t beat resistive ones.

Because the game uses OpenGL ES for graphical acceleration the newer mobile phones can make use of this and it shows in the games looks. You get with this, beautiful animations, speed and a great gaming experience. The only downside of the game is the price, which is a little steep.

As Microsoft does not offer proper support for their platform development it’s really their fault. All in all, hats of to Colorstone Ltd. for creating true quality gaming experiences for Windows Mobile. Something will hopefully be a continuing trend in the future of Windows Phone gaming.

SPB published a new WVGA Windows Mobile game called SPB Quads. Quads is a puzzle game where the goal is to make squares from a area of small squares with other colors and forms. The object of the game is the same as the mini game that is named quadratic that you can see in the SPB Brain evolution 2.0 release. This game compared to the mini game from brain games has a great blissful look about it, instead of the more boring appearing mini game. The game does this with a live color and shape theme, quality sound and music. The animation applied throughout the game are smooth and the input to the screen looks direct- as in no lag at all. In the options menu you can choose to have sound and or music and you can set the loudness aswell.

The game features 2 manners named ‘Ever Quad’ and ‘Time Quad’. In the ever quad mode you can basically keep on playing until your battery fails. In the timed mode you have to get a certain amount of power points before the timer bolts out, as you gain more points the timer gains more time. Both games look every bit good on the WVGA 800×480 screens we tested it on. When you get enough points before the timer runs out you are given a new level, and the game gains the difficultness.

The game features several kind of bonuses and some tips when you are lost. SPB Quads is not a hard game, but it can become difficult as your skill increases and you wish to challenge your self to a high score every clock. The game can be played when ever you want to, and the ability to set the loudness to 0 with out changing your telephone profile assist in this. When you exit the game it really remembers the state of the game and you can continue whenever you want to or tap the option menu and begin a new one.

SPB Quads is a fun small game and for $9,99 it’s worthy the cost (if you love it). Feel free to try it out like always SPB Softwarehouse has released a 15 day trial run of the game on their website. You can ask yourself if you really care so much about the graphics, and would settle for the more simple version of the game in SPB Brain Evolution 2.0 which is $10 more to purchase. I would however recommend the game to be played on the more innovational WVGA Smartphones (HTC ones of course!), they have bigger screens and make the game more fun to play with your finger instead of strangling with your stylus.

We all know and love tower defense games, years and years they have entertained people. There since recently there is a tower defense game released for the Windows Mobile WVGA/VGA platform. If for some reason you don’t know what a tower defense game is, it consists of a playing field with or without obstacles where enemies try to reach your home base and do damage to it. The enemies can be fend of by placing towers on the map that has to kill them before they reach your base. One of the better games that have landed on the Windows Mobile platform for sure.

When you start the game, graduatly enemies start walking from one side of the map to the other trying to reach your base. Your building gets damaged every time an enemie enters it. When 20 enemies land in your base you have lost the battle and have failed has a supreme commander of your base’ defense. As said you have to place different types of towers in the playing field to make sure they don’t reach your base. In the case of this new Windows Mobile Tower Defense game from Color Stone Ltd you have a total of 6 different towers that you can plant down to defend your base. All towers have different aspects and do a different type of damage to the incoming enemies. Although it is not very clear what kind of damage the towers do, So when you first start playing you have to kind of mix abit and see what works best It’s abit of a shame because it can be quite tedious to find the right mix .

As you kill enemies with your mix of towers you gain more money, with this cash you can purchace new towers or upgrade excisting ones. The towers can be upgraded a total of 2 times and when you do they get a tad more bad ass graphics, think of bigger guns, more guns, bigger flame thrower and such things.

The game features 2 levels that you can play and they both bring different type of strategy to this windows mobile game. The game has 3 difficulties easy, normal and hard, the suggested difficulty is easy unless you are a tower defense veteran. In the options menu you can select music/sound effects and there is a possibility to view your high score. There is not a real option to save option for this Windows Mobile game but you can quit and resume your game later on. If you decide to start a new game you cannot resume the game you played before that.

This tower defense game is one of the best that you can find to play on WVGA Windows Mobile devices. If you have always enjoyed Tower Defense games you should definitely get it, as it is as it stands the best Tower Defense game you can get for your phone. There are little things that arent perfect about this game, like the missing save option and the unclear tower functions. These little things don’t bring the game down that much though and the rating agrees with this statement.

A great Windows Phone game can be hard to find at times. But the one reviewed here today is a real gem, and best of all it’s completely free. Totem Star Lite is a straightforward but great puzzle game for the Windows Phone platform. Totem Star Lite does it’s thing suburb on the WVGA devices, and as an enthusiastic gamer who loves the new WVGA devices, and games that work on these phones I just had to test this new game.

This WVGA compatible game that was previously known as “Dream Catcher” but for unknown reason was later renamed to Totem Star. In this game you lead the destiny of your fellow tribesmen through the stars or so according to the creators of the game. Totem Star is set in the Native American desert sunset. The goal of the game is to Lasso stars of similar shape or color. You can also make combination in as the authors say – ‘an infinite variety of patterns’ which in reality will most likely be quite finite. But there are plenty combinations possible and a lot to be found out in the game play.

Capture them stars!

This WVGA game(and other resolutions) is available for free via the developer website – Touch Dimensions. Where you can download it as a .cab file to install on your phone. The cab file can be either downloaded directly to your mobile phone or copied over through your operating system with Active Sync or Bluetooth. This WVGA game requires that you have MS .NET Compact Framework 3.5 placed on your Windows Mobile Smartphone device. You can install it through searching around in the search engines and the Microsoft site.

Totem Star Lite is easy to start playing, but you will soon discover that the game is much deeper as it appears to be from the start. The goal of the game is to make certain patterns from the stars that spawn randomly in the nightly heavens. The patterns can be found in the bottom right corner of the screen. Just below a totem pole that you have to fill up to have your fellow tribesmen build more buildings, which results into a new pattern and a better high score.

When you need to make certain combinations you can force the color star to appear in the game area by making a certain combination to force a certain color to spawn. The combinations you can make in the game can be found on Touch Dimensions website that you can find with Google.

The game play is fun, and keeps you busy for quite some time. The background music is very relaxing and the entire atmosphere of the game is just great. Though these days it’s all about finger friendliness of applications and games this one actually plays better with the stylus. This is because you have to draw patterns between sometimes close by stars and having your finger in the way does more harm than good. The game plays fine with a finger if you are not that bothered with getting the best high score that day. In the options menu of the game you can view your current high score and switch between music/sound enabled or disabled. Other than that it’s just a great entertaining WVGA game that works on all devices it was tested on, QVGA, VGA, WVGA and more. Be sure to try this gem of a game, which on top of it all is free.
